Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany was taken to hospital by ambulance on Friday after collapsing at the club's training ground.

He reportedly collapsed after watching a training session involving Bayern's reserve team at the Sabener Strasse facility in Munich. A statement from the Bundesliga club said Vincent Kompany had to seek medical treatment on Friday after collapsing during training for FC Bayern's amateurs.

Emergency services were called to the scene. German newspaper Bild reported that a rescue helicopter also landed at the training complex.

Last week it was reported that Kompany was suffering from a viral infection affecting his legs, raising doubts over his availability for Wednesday's Champions League match against Arsenal. He returned to the dugout for that match and had only resumed training duties a few days before Friday's incident.

A former captain of the Belgian national team, Kompany started his managerial career six years ago and has been with Bayern since May 2024.
