Newsroom

At midday on Thursday, 22 October, a small aircraft got into difficulty directly behind the runway of the airfield in Bielefeld. After the accident it came down in the crowns of trees and remained stuck high above the ground.

Numerous rescue units went to the scene at once. A fire service spokesperson said the aircraft first had to be secured in that position before the occupants could be rescued. Incident command requested a specialist height-rescue team from the Gütersloh fire service. The rescuers removed both people from the wreckage and handed them to the ambulance service.

Medical staff examined the occupants on site. An initial assessment found that both had come through the incident without injuries. According to initial police information, the accident happened from a relatively low altitude. Officers said the aircraft stalled before it landed in the branches near the airfield.
